ASPEN
PROJECT
Additional Support for
Pupils with Emotional Needs
Starting at our school
after half term
WHAT IS
ASPEN?
ASPEN is a school listening
service which supports children, young people and their families. ASPEN
offers early intervention and also promotes a whole school approach for
emotional wellbeing.
A child or young person may
need someone to talk to about emotional, behavioural or social difficulties
or need some advice. ASPEN is aiming to provide this support.
WHAT
KIND OF PROBLEMS CAN ASPEN HELP WITH?
School refusal
Difficulties in
family life and relationships
Bullying
Behaviour
Anxiety
Sadness
WHO
PROVIDES THE SERVICE?
At your school there is a team
who support children and young people, that includes the Headteacher, Mrs
James, Special Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) Mrs Sherratt and an ASPEN trained
Teaching Assistant, Mrs Price. There will be other people that help the
service such as School Nurse, Parent Support Worker and Child and Adolescent
Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
HOW IS
A YOUNG PERSON REFERRED TO ASPEN
Typically a parent or class
teacher will contact the Headteacher or SENCO who will co-ordinate the most
appropriate person or service to help. Children can request seeing our
ASPEN worker initially, but after a first session, parental permission will
be sought.
