Active Lunchtime Coordinator

Skipping training

Tuesday 15th April – Thursday 17th April

During the last three days ESSSP have organised skipping training for ALC’s as part of the ‘active lunchtimes playground project’.  Over eighty ALC’s attended from forty two schools!  The training was led by Lee James from ‘Skip Hop’; the morning session focused on individual, partner and long rope skipping.  In the afternoon the ALC’s watched Lee working with students.  Therefore the ALC’s could see the tricks they had learnt in the morning being taught to children on the playground.  During the course of the day the ALC’s were only too happy to share their experiences of the positive effect of the active lunchtimes playground project.  This is just a few of their comments; ‘the children now look forward to come out to play at lunchtimes’, ‘the playground is now a much calmer place with much fewer accidents’, ‘since we zoned the playground there are now hardly any behavioural issues’.  ESSSP is extremely grateful to the warm hospitality of the hosting schools; Winshill Village, Mosley, Oldfields Hall and Uttoxeter Leisure Centre.  Many thanks also to Lee James from Skip Hop, his enthusiasm has inspired the ALC’s to introduce skipping on the school playground.  Finally and most importantly, thank you to all the ALC’s that attended and the ESSSP looks forward to meeting with you again next term.  Don’t forget your skipping rope!
